Compassion In Action exists to be a refuge from the storms of life for hurting and needy people around the world. Our goal is to minister to the entire person, physically, spiritually and emotionally.
Tom Shilts – Director
Tom is a registered nurse , licensed pastor and business owner in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He is currently a student pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies.

As a result of serving the poor and needy for years, Tom and his wife formed a 501 C-3 corporation/ministry called Compassion In Action. Their efforts have included 5 trips for Hurricane Charley relief, 10 trips for Hurricane Katrina relief, 4 trips for Joplin tornado relief, 1 trip to New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy relief and 1 trip to Moore, OK for tornado relief. Annual mission trips to Mexico, multiple local projects/extreme home makeover, prison ministry and hosting an International Father’s Embrace Conference for pastors and leaders have all been a part of his service.
Tom has been married to his high school sweetheart, Cathie, since 1972. With their passions for family, life and ministry so parallel, they simply love doing life together.

As co-leader of annual mission trips to Mexico since 1991, Cathie has a passion for mercy ministry. While Tom leads the team in building a house in 4 days, Cathie leads the rest of the team helping at a soup kitchen for the homeless, orphanage ministry, nursing home ministry, food give away, hair cutting clinics, VBS, and hospital ministry where all of the children have spinabifeda. Her outreaches have also included local projects/extreme home makeover, numerous disaster relief trips and a medical mission trip to Kosovo in 2004. Hosting local and International Women’s Conferences and International Father’s Embrace Conferences is also a part of Cathie’s passion to see lives changed by the power of God.
The greatest gift we have been given is our family.
